An impact framework that helped secure $150 million for self-determination

We designed Indigenous Business Australia's impact framework and inaugural impact report, hailed by the Productivity Commission and helping secure $150m in new funding.
The challenge
Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) is the Australian Government's primary economic arm supporting Indigenous economic development, investing over $400 million annually and managing $2 billion in assets, working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to drive long-term prosperity and self-determination. An organisation investing at that scale needs to show, credibly and rigorously, the difference its investment makes, to government, to communities, and to the Productivity Commission. IBA needed a way to measure and prove its impact that would stand up to that scrutiny.
What we did
Working with IBA's CEO, Executive and Board over the course of a year, we designed the organisation's Impact Framework, documenting clearly how IBA measures its impact. We then undertook the first year of qualitative and quantitative research and produced the inaugural Impact Report.
The impact
The Impact Report was launched by the then Minister for Indigenous Australians and hailed by the Productivity Commission as a benchmark for Indigenous evaluation. It helped IBA secure an additional $150 million in funding to support its activities. Both the Impact Framework and the Impact Report are publicly available.
