Building resilient communities, and proving it
Monash University · Impact Measurement · Social and Public Welfare
We built the strategy and impact framework for Monash's Fire to Flourish program, measuring and reporting community-led disaster recovery.
The challenge
After the devastation of the 2019 to 2020 Black Summer bushfires, Monash University launched Fire to Flourish, a five-year program advancing community-led disaster recovery and long-term resilience. A program this ambitious, working hand in hand with communities over years, needs more than good intentions. It needs a way to know whether it is working, and a way to show it, to funders, partners and the communities themselves.
What we did
Over more than six months with the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, we built the strategy and the impact framework to carry the program. We shaped the program strategy and a roadmap to implement it, then designed an impact framework that defines what success looks like and how to measure it for work that is genuinely community-led. We have since delivered the 2024 and 2025 impact reports, turning years of on-the-ground progress into clear, credible evidence.
The impact
Fire to Flourish has a strategy, a measurement framework and a growing body of impact evidence that lets it track progress, learn as it goes and demonstrate its value to the funders and partners who sustain it.
